Nowadays, information manipulation, fake news, misinformation, disinformation, mal-information and online hate speech have made it difficult to get reliable information on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp. Putting this into context, the present conflict in the North West and SouthWest regions have seen the use of social networks and digital tools to manipulate information in order to start panic, fear, confusion in a large audience. Thus, media, information and digital citizenship education actions will provide the population with adequate responses and a new online behavioral change. The Talk Peace project aimed at equipping young people who are the main users of digital tools, online platforms and encourage youths to take an active part in reducing tensions by learning reliability and calming information publishing techniques responding to misinformation.

The training  was one of the best experiences I’ve had in terms of media and information literacy . It was extremely edifying; what I enjoyed was the fact that everyone was given an opportunity to share their views and experiences during the group sessions enhanced brainstorming/idea sharing among participants.

We need more such educational and uplifting programs for young people.

Equipped with such skills, we are charged to educate others and act to counter any hate speech or fake news we find in our communities to avoid the harm and disaster that comes with it.
